Java is a programming language and computing platform first released by Sun Microsystems in 1995. It has evolved from humble beginnings to power a large share of today's digital world by providing a reliable platform upon which many services and applications are built. New, innovative products and digital services designed for the future continue to rely on Java.
The syntax of Java is similar to C and C++ but has fewer low-level facilities than either. It is a high-level, class-based, object-oriented programming language that lets programmers write once and run anywhere. Java applications are typically compiled to bytecode that can run on any Java Virtual Machine (JVM) regardless of the underlying computer architecture.
